Challenge & Inspiration for Lesson 3, Cluster Recipe 2

Use Cluster Recipe 2 to create an overlapping card cluster and add it to a scrapbook page.

NOTE: Please complete the lessons in the order they are provided.

Cluster Recipe 2 - Overlapping Card Cluster

Journaling card

  • Rectangular or square
  • Room for overlapping elements

1-2 overlays

  • Unshadowed
  • Go behind the card
  • Examples: paint, scribbles, brushes, stamps, or transfers

2-4 elements

  • Must be shadowed, so no overlays
  • Go in front of the card, overlapping it
  • Examples: tags, alphas, flowers, hearts, or small berries

Additional Guidelines for Recipe 2

  • When overlapping a journaling card, avoid hiding any important details of the card, like words in a phrase.
  • Always add a shadow to elements, but never shadow overlays.
  • Keep all overlays behind the card and all elements in front of the card.
  • All overlays should peek out behind the card.
  • All elements should overlap the card and stack on top of each other.
  • Avoid choosing large solid elements (like big tags or stickers) that will hide other layers.
  • Use the same kit for all parts of the cluster.
