There are a variety of reasons you might want to bind your book by hand. There’s nothing like the satisfaction of holding your beautiful finished book and knowing that you made it yourself. Hand binding can also make a terrific project to share with a child or grandchild. Another reason might be to save money. If finances are an issue it can be much cheaper to assemble a finished book yourself rather than using a book printing company.

Charlie and I began making hand-bound hard and soft cover books decades ago, long before there were custom book printing companies available. I’ve asked Charlie to assist me in presenting these lessons since we’ve always worked together as a team—I’ve written the books and he’s the one who has always bound them. In these lessons we’ll share our time-tested methods and tips to help you create your own hand-bound masterpieces.
