Perfect Design Combos
We’ve discussed many different page designs over the course of this class, so for this challenge I want to shift the attention away from a single design to how we might be able to combine more than one design on a single page.
Let’s start with this Line design template.
Challenge
Come up with three ways you can take this line design and combine it with another page design in such a way that it looks good. Remember:
- You can rotate the design.
- You can choose to use only part of the Line design as long as it remains a line.
- You can move the title and journaling to fit the new hybrid design.
My Process
I looked through the previews of designs to see what might fit. Then I chose one and opened the corresponding template to create a combination page. Try to do the same before peeking at what I did!

Here’s what I came up with:
Line + Mirror
Line + Mask
Line + Thirds
TRY CHALLENGE #2
Let’s see if we can do the same with an Uneven Grid design. This design is a little harder to combine with other designs, but let’s give it a try.
When you’ve had a chance to pick some other designs that would make a good combo with this uneven grid, then you can look to see what I did.

Here are the combinations I made:
Uneven Grid + Frame
Uneven Grid + Blending
Uneven Grid + Thirds
LAST BIG CHALLENGE!
One of the hardest designs to mix with other designs is the Rectangular Grid design. I chose this template and decided to combine it with designs from Modules 2 through 10.
For a real workout, try this yourself before looking at my combos!

WRAP UP
Some of the design combos stretched the definition of good design a bit, but for the most part I was able to come up with pretty decent designs that I’d be happy to use.
The key is to stretch your imagination to what is possible, and then try it!
